Matrix — mxchat.cz

A community chat on the open, decentralised Matrix protocol. No ads, no tracking, and you can talk to people on other Matrix servers too.

What is Matrix

Matrix is an open chat protocol, a bit like e-mail: you have an account on one server and can still talk to people on any other. Our server is mxchat.cz, so your address will look like @username:mxchat.cz.

How to get an account

Mxchat is a community Matrix server run by OSCloud. Registration is not invite-only, but it does need a quick approval by an administrator. This protects us from spambots and keeps the community healthy.

1. Fill in the Join us form on the home page, choose Matrix chat as the service and write your desired nickname and a short note on why you want an account.
2. We usually reply within 24 hours.
3. Once approved, we will send you a registration token. The token works for 5 people, so you can invite friends or family with it.
4. Na chat.mxchat.cz click Create Account, fill in your details and enter the token.

Alternative: sign in with OSCloud

If you already have an OSCloud account, you do not need a token. On chat.mxchat.cz click Continue with OSCloud and sign in with your OSCloud account.

Why not open registration?

Open registration on Matrix servers attracts spambots and accounts abused to spread unsolicited content. Approval lets us keep the server off federation ban lists and protect the community from harassment.

Apps

The web client is enough, but an app is more comfortable on your phone and computer. Any Matrix client works, for example Element or FluffyChat. When logging in, enter https://mxchat.cz as the homeserver.
